Thank you for your interest in Interpreter Education Online.

Our educational programs had been developed by a multidisciplinary team of language, legal and medical professionals. Experienced practicing interpreters with federal and state credentials and with extensive pedagogical and academic background created the course concept and curriculum as well as the Interpreter Ethics, Interpretation Theory and Interpretation Practice sections. The Legal Concepts and Criminal Procedure sections were written by legal professionals and the Special Topic section - by subject-matter specialists, for example by a firearm expert.

The courses are being taught by two instructors - language-neutral and language-specific. All our instructors are accomplished federally and state certified interpreters with proven interpreter training skills.

If you let us know which specific course you are interested in and what is your language combination, we'd be happy to provide more information about the instructors.

Please contact us at <strong>services@InterpreterEducationOnline.com </strong>

Who constructed these courses? What academic experience do these people have? Who imparts these courses, and what is their academic preparation? What academic background do the mentors have, and who are they?

Dear Lena,
Thank you for your interest in Interpreter Education Online.

There are two types of certification exams for court interpreters in the U.S.: federal and state. Federal Court Interpreter Examination is offered only in Spanish, Navaho, and Haitian-Creole languages. See http://www.ncsconline.org/d_research/fcice_exam/index.htm for more information.

You should check with your State Court Administrative Office whether or not Court Interpreter Exam is offered in your state and in you language combination. Some states, such as California, developed their own examination system. Forty states are members of the Consortium for Language Access in the Courts. For more information, see

http://www.ncsconline.org/D_RESEARCH/CourtInterp.html

and

http://www.ncsconline.org/D_Research/CourtInterp/Res_CtInte_ConsortMemberStatesPubNove07.pdf

As you see, the exams are administered by independent bodies. The exam passing rate is from 3% to 13% of the candidates depending on the language. While taking the course will not give you the certification status automatically, it will help you to get ready for the exam, and, hopefully, be among 3-13% of the examinees who pass the exam successfully.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any further questions.

Good luck

When you are done taking the course, where do you go to take the exam for certification? Is that offered through the school?

Thanks so much, Lena

Aleks,

Thank you for your inquiry. Currently, the training is offered in a number of languages, including Russian. We are expecting to have the training provided in Ukrainian in 2010. In a meantime, please let me know if you have any other questions regarding our programs.

Best regards,

Jinny

It would be interesting to see training and materials in Ukrainian. Or maybe you are already offering this language?
