  1. Never mind my previous question by e-mail. I’ve just found out your rates. Thank you. I’ll keep it in mind for future training. Right now, I cannot afford it, as I am taking translation courses at NYU, and I’m obtaining my license as a certified interpreter in New Mexico. I already have the Texas license, but wanted to take the test to become a licensed interpreter in all the Consortium states.

    Thank you.
    María

I have received information about your program through NAJIT.
I have been working in the legal system for almost 19 years, first as a State employee and now privately, but I think there is always more to learn.
I will review your courses and decide which ones will be of benefit for my work.
    Regards,

Do you offer training in Medical Interpretation? I would like to get information about your fee and program description if so. Thank you!

  6. Jinny says:

    Gustavo,

Thank you for your interest in the Medical Interpreter training programs. These programs will become available in 2010, so please check back with us in a few months. In a meantime, take a look at our online Bookstore. We have language-specific materials for healthcare interpreters that can be purchased through the website. I hope this would be a good start for you.

    Warm regards,
    Jinny

Do you have screening exam? How can I feel comfortable to take the Advanced Course without knowing I am in the right level? If you do have, can I take it before registration?

Does this course cover traffic accident, simultanous, consecutive, site translation training?

Do you have sample state exams for exercises?

So far, what are the chances one can pass the state exam after this training?

    Thanks,
    Laura

  8. Interpreter Education Online says:

    Dear Laura,

Our Advanced course is designed to benefit students of various skill levels: beginning, intermediate, and advanced. However, the beginners are expected to allocate more time for studying and practicing. Advanced course is the most comprehensive study program for court interpreters, taught by language-neutral and language-specific instructors. It includes forty chapters on legal concepts and various areas of law: stages of criminal procedure; special topics, such as Vehicular Accident, Controlled Substances, Autopsies, Slang and Jargon, and more; court interpreter ethics, and interpretation theory. Students will be working with multiple glossaries and practicing audio exercises for all three modes of interpretation as well as with terminology audio drills.

Our exercises are based on court transcripts and on legal documents. They do reflect the standards required by the Consortium and Federal examinations. However, the main goal of the course is to prepare students for the real courtroom performance. Working in a courtroom is considerably more challenging than interpreting test materials. We believe that those students who study and practice diligently and complete all the components of the course have a very good chance to become qualified court interpreters. Passing the test would be a byproduct of their educational and training efforts.

Our Initial Assessment Test is incorporated in the Basic and Advanced courses. It gives students and instructors a very clear idea of the student’s base skill level and allows monitoring the student’s progress throughout the course. A stand-alone test can be administered for an additional fee.

Laura, we would be happy to arrange for a virtual tour of our course for you, so you could make an informed decision on your educational route at Interpreter Education Online. Please contact Irina at curriculum@interpretereducationonline.com if you wish to proceed.

  9. Juliann Wasisco says:

What about .ceu’s? Any of the courses you offer here have ceu’s? Thanks!

  10. Interpreter Education Online says:

    Dear Juliann,
We have been approved as CEUs’ provider by several states: California, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Utah, Maryland and Oregon. We are awaiting approval by Florida, Colorado and Tennessee. The number of Credits we are approved for depends on the course and vary from one state to the other. If you would like to receive more information, please tell me in which state you are certified.
    Thank you.

  11. johanne Colon says:

what type of certification is given at the end of your courses and where ate they recognized

  12. Interpreter Education Online says:

    Dear Johanne,
At the end of the course, the students receive a certificate of completion. Many states recognize our courses as continuing education. The students get credits from the course.
If you are looking to be a state certified interpreter, you may want to look into the Administrative Office of the Courts in your state and see what exam they offer. Taking our course will not give you this type of certification, however, our Advanced course will give you the tools and knowledge you need to pass the challenging state certification examination.
Please let me know if I can help you in any other way.

  13. Alessandra Ogna Meza says:

Hi I would like to know if your courses are considered as CEU by Kentucky state

  14. Interpreter Education Online says:

    Hello Alessandra,

At this time, our courses are not approved for CEU by the State of Kentucky. However, we are working so that they may be in the future.

  15. Deborah Jin says:

Hello, I am currently a student in college.
I am a bilingual English- chinese
And currently looking for interpreting jobs around my location.
I wanted to receive a certification in interpreter/translation.
However I am not sure how the process goes in order to receive one. Can anybody update me with information? where to start and how to go about?

  16. Interpreter Education Online says:

    Hello Deborah,

If you wish to obtain certification as an interpreter, you may do so in 1 of 3 ways. You may take a certification test in your state, through the Federal courts or through an organization like NAJIT.

Interpreter Education Online doesn’t certify interpreters because we are not a certifying body. However, we help prepare and train interpreters for certification tests. We provide students a certification of completion upon successful completion of a course.
